Austin brings a decade of state and federal advocacy experience to TPA. He has policy expertise in higher education, agriculture, natural resources, trade, public pensions, and the state budget process.
Austin has developed effective relationships in Sacramento with the Legislature, Administration, and key agencies. He also maintains a network of contacts with several regional and local political organizations located throughout California.
Prior to joining TPA, Austin served as principal lobbyist and lead spokesman for a higher education advocacy organization. An example of his many achievements: Austin secured an earmark in the amount of $4.5 million in the budget of the California Community College system for the provision student mental health services.
Austin had previously held multiple government relations roles for the California Department of Food and Agriculture and served as staff to a State Senator.
While at the Department of Food and Agriculture, Austin helped to secure over $380,000 in grant funding from various federal agencies to support education and outreach programs related to agricultural trade. He organized and led speaker forums and informational events in communities up and down the state.
Along with his time working in public policy, Austin serves on the Board of Directors for the local YMCA and is an active member of the Sacramento Press Club, and several charitable organizations. Austin is an alumnus of University of the Pacific, where he studied Organizational Behavior, Political Science, and International Relations. When not at the office, he enjoys traveling abroad, hiking, and supporting Manchester United FC.
