SB 443 (Rubio) Moves to Senate Appropriations Committee

We are pleased to report that legislation sponsored by TPA client, the City of La Verne, has passed out of the Assembly Public Employment and Retirement Committee. Introduced by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park), SB 443 would authorize cities that choose to join existing Joint Powers Authorities (JPAs) to transfer their senior staff to the JPA while maintaining their classic CalPERS status.

“As our City explores this partnership to enhance regional public safety services, retaining employees with Classic CalPERS status is critical to the success of a new dispatch center,” said La Verne Mayor Tim Hepburn. “SB 443 will foster enhanced partnership in the JPA and promote the retention of senior public safety officers, ensuring the initiative can move forward successfully and deliver long-term benefits to our communities.”

TPA has long championed both public safety and public employment-related legislation and is proud to work with cities advance collaborative solutions to keeping their communities safe.

SB 443 passed by a vote of 7 – 0 and now heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee!
