City of Turlock Awarded $500,000 Grant for Community Oriented Policing

Nov 30, 2020

TPA congratulates the City of Turlock for being awarded a grant in the amount of $500,00 from the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice.

In 2019, hiring in the City’s Police Department was severely affected by the City’s financial situation. Because of those staffing issues, four Neighborhood Resource Officer (N.R.O.) positions remained vacant. With this grant the City is now able to replace those officers and continue its primary objective of enhancing the safety of children in schools and building engagement with surrounding neighborhoods.

This latest achievement is another example of the commitment of the City to pursue its mission to protect and promote the quality of life of its residents and the prosperity of its businesses.

Congratulations Turlock!

City of Vallejo Awarded $5,114,754 for Community Oriented Policing

Nov 25, 2020

TPA congratulates the City of Vallejo for being awarded a grant in the amount of $5,114,754 from the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The City will use these funds to hire eight new officers, who will contribute to the reforms recommended in a recent internal assessment, including reducing overtime, making more time and resources available for de-escalation training, and afford officers more time to interact and develop relationships with neighborhoods and individual members of the public. This funding will also help the City seek out applicants who bring a range of experiences and perspectives to the job, and might have a heightened ability to relate to disparate groups within the City.

This latest achievement is another example of the commitment of the City to pursue its mission to protect and promote the quality of life of its residents and the prosperity of its businesses.

Congratulations Vallejo!
